Hey all you mom’s out there! I’ve had quite an INTERESTING day and wrote a poem of just the things that have happened TODAY! The Imperfect Mom
You know how it goes, when you don’t want to play
But some days you go ahead and do it anyway.
But then there are days when you just say no,
Even though guilt may try to get you to go.
Or the constant correction that needs to be done
Like “not that foot, the shoe is on the wrong one”
You know the “Mom Squeeze” or the gritting your teeth
Or when they spill water, right where you sleep.
But in just a second, they can get you to laugh,
Like a naked booty in rain boots and nothing to splash.
A sweet hug, or the countless exhausting cry
Bedtime can’t come quick enough, with the roller coaster low and high.
And don’t forget the nights, when you’ve got it on your own
The hubs is out of town, so bath and bed duty you do alone
Or you escape to go to the bathroom, to steal a minute of some quiet
When you reemerge it looks as if there could’ve been a riot.
Pillows scattered everywhere, chairs & blankets making a fort
You enjoy the creativity, even get a chuckle when you hear a snort.
This mom thing is the real deal, and how I took my own mom for granted
Never did I have an idea that this job was so demanding.
I’ve even had a few moments when I’ve yelled our “No-No” phrase
We never say “Shut Up”, but in moments I’ve had my voice loudly raised!
So to all you imperfect mom’s, who share in my love AND tears
Dance parties, whining, messes & snuggles in reality, we just have a few years.
